'What if burnout isn't a personal failure, but a signal that we need support?' Your question was answered for me when my neurodivergent daughter was 20 years old. I finally fell apart and spent 3 weeks in a psychiatric unit. It was a life changing time and for me the realisation came that I could not do this on my own, I needed support.

Colleen, I’m so sorry that had to happen.

It’s a cultural problem. I hope you know that it’s not your fault. Not your daughter’s fault. Society doesn’t offer, and moms especially are socialized to never ask for, the support we need. Honestly, men too.

It’s still a practice for me to accept help when it is offered. But I know there’s joy in giving, so why would I deny someone joy who WANTS to give?

Luckily, we don’t need to wait for grace to be offered. We can give it to ourselves. In abundance. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
