Wow! What a beautiful story! Needless to say, it takes my breath away to know that Ocean had a best friend so young! And that they walked from the mini bus into the cafeteria holding hands!

Thanks mom! I know. 🤗🫶

That security guard definitely had a job to do, but sneaking in to follow the mini bus is peak protective parent energy!

Oh yeah I turn into a fierce mama bear. And he turned out to be a great guy.

That kindergarten morning, when I learned that my son Ocean walked from the bus holding hands with a new friend, was a pivotal moment for me. It was a realization that there are wonderful things happening, even when I'm not seeing them.

I'm curious: what has been a small, unexpected moment of good that happened when you let your child navigate something without you?

What did you discover when you gave them space?

Oh, Kate, I can relate to the ugly cry of relief when something good happens for our kiddo! I hope you and your family get to celebrate many more of the good things! 💕

Oh, most recently it was when he made some deep connections with some people in Italy and Greece during his study abroad. Knowing that he could manage that experience (within the supports of an organized tour) and still connect with others? Priceless!

Oh yes, that’s truly priceless.

I’m so glad you had this experience. Some of us have had things go very, very wrong. After that it’s hard to believe that things will ever go right again. It’s a totally natural way to feel, but I should remember that in reality things do sometimes go right.

Hi Amanda, yes, for sure. I'm sorry. It sucks.

It hasn't all been rainbows and unicorns here. That's why I was so concerned, and it was so surprising. See last week's post for some minor examples. Things have gone very wrong for Ocean plenty of times. I write about that to normalize it. AND things have gone right. Repair and healing can strengthen us.

Of course we don't go looking for harm, but when I see it as a quest, it makes it a bit easier to persevere.
