Thank you for writing. Last month was one of the hardest for me as a parent in Minneapolis. Just wow. It’s challenging to work with a tween with ADHD/ODD who is trying to do non-preferred tasks (homework) while processing knowledge of murder, abduction, classmates’ needs to hide, and all of the tension all around him. We will keep moving through it as best we can.
I can only imagine the challenges you’ve been facing.
Your tween will remember this time and how you held them through it. This is the true learning.
Homework doesn’t always come first. But if it feels important to maintain a routine, what about letting your kid know they can do fewer problems if they’re struggling right now?
These are tough times. You’re in the epicenter right now. Sending massive hugs! 🤗
Thank you for this! I have to say I had a wonderful, lovely evening yesterday with my tween. He asked me to eat a snack with him, and then he made the snack for me (peanut butter on crackers), and then we ate together and talked and he was laughing, and my gosh. It was everything. And then at bedtime, he asked my husband if I could come to his room, and he laid in bed and said, “It was nice talking to you tonight.” !!! I feel like I won life. :) What a love. I think the best way you and other readers can help us in Minneapolis is to donate or be sure to follow and share our local news. https://www.standwithminnesota.com
